When I got hands on experience releasing AI in a public service product, I came face to face with the difficult decisions about how to use AI at a critical point in a person’s life, and grappled in real-time with the safety issues that emerged. In all that time, it was hard to find and share practical lessons about what it’s like to be that person, weighing up what AI can offer to society and evaluating whether it really does deliver impact for end users.
So I started AI for Impact, a fortnightly spotlight of stories of emerging AI uses in non profits, government and social conscious companies, honest interviews with people responsible for developing AI in these organisations and listings of AI for social good events.
